FOUR rebels of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) were killed and 18 captives rescued in two separate clashes between the LRA and UPDF in Gulu and Kitgum districts on Tuesday.

The army said three rebels were killed in Itinyo village in Namokora sub-county in Chua county on the Uganda-Sudan border.

It said three AK47 rifles were recovered from the LRA hideout together with most of the rebels’ looted items.

Sources also said the rebels were smoked out of their hideout in Chua county.

In Gulu, the army spokesman, Lt. Frank Baraza, said they killed one rebel during a brief gunfire exchange between the LRA and UPDF in Atyak sub-county in Kilak county.

He said four rebels were forced to surrender during the clash.

“We captured three other rebels at Pabbo internally displaced persons’ camp with two sub-machine guns, 60 loose rounds of bullets and two bomb shells of 60mm mortar,” Baraza said.

He said they also rescued 18 abductees from the LRA rebels in various places in Gulu district during the two operations.
