GEOG YOUR MEMORY WITH
Emmanuel Ngerageze

THERE is no doubt East African region is tectonically active, believed to be located on a plume.

A lot of signs indicate the activeness of tectonics in East Africa.

These include among other things the earthquakes in western Uganda, the active volcanic mountains such as Mt Hobley in Kenya.

Now the Baringo Geyser Has added on the marshalling evidence to this concept.

Read Reuben Olita’s story (The New Vision, Tuesday, April 20, 2004) on a Geyser in a town of Baringo in Rift Valley province and ‘geog;’ your memory as follows:

--With the help of an Atlas, show the location of:
- The Rift Valley of East Africa.
- The town Baringo.
- Lake Baringo.
- Mt. Rwenzori.

--Explain and differentiate between the terms:
- Geyser.
- Hot spring.

-Explain the formation of Geyser s (use diagrams to help you).

-Name other examples of geysers and hot spring in East Africa if there anymore that you know.

The Rift valley zone of East Africa is closely associated with volcanicity, why?

-The hot volcanic (magma) rock seems to be closer to the earth’s crest in Kenya, which is very vital resource to the country.

-Explain how the tectonic features (rift valleys, volcanic features and related lakes) have benefited the country.

-Explain the potential values of the Geysers and hotsprings to the industrial development of Kenya as a nation.

-How are Geysers going be a disadvantage to Kenya?

O’ Level
-Locate Lake Baringo rift valley, Baringo town in East Africa.
-Give one example of a Geyser being mentioned in Kenya.

-Describe the formation of Geysers as being reported in the story.

-What materials are erupted as a Geyser gets formed.

-How are the geysers and hotstream jets beneficial to Kenya?

-Where in Uganda would find hotsprings?
