MPs were yesterday divided over where the National Planning Authority (NPA) should be housed

MPs were yesterday divided over where the National Planning Authority (NPA) should be housed, reports Henry Mukasa.

MPs of the presidential and foreign affairs committee were meeting the Minister for the Presidency, Kirunda Kivejinja, and his technical staff to discuss policy matters.
John Eresu (Kaberamaido) said the nascent NPA needed patronage of the Office of the President because officials of the Ministry of Finance fought it openly when it was being founded.

“In one of the planning meetings, the then secretary for the treasury, Tumusiime Mutebile, said NPA would succeed over his dead body. It needs patronage for a start, otherwise it will not succeed,” Eresu said.
However, the committee chairperson said adding NPA to the load of the Office of the President would congest the office.
