The success of the National Resistance Army led by Yoweri Museveni depended on its clandestine activities, the Army Commander, Maj. Gen. Aronda Nyakairima said yesterday.

Aronda said this at a requiem mass for the UPDF deputy chief of personnel and administration, Lt. Col. Jack David Mishambi, who died on Tuesday at Mulago Hospital.

He said Mishambi, who joined the NRA in 1981, was one of their best officers in concealment operations.

“Lt. Col. Mishambi was a contact point in concealment. Clandestine operations accounted for 60% of the NRA’s successes,” Aronda said at All Saints Church, Nakasero.

The mourners included the widow, Sheila Kawamara Mishambi, a member of the East African Assembly, their children and ministers.

Kawamara described Mishambi as a loving husband and father who encouraged her when she worked as a journalist to cover the 1994 Rwanda genocide.

State minister for defence Ruth Nankabirwa said the legacy left behind by Mishambi will give more energy to the UPDF to ensure total peace for the whole country.

He will be buried today at Kabwoma, Rukungiri district.
