At present, it is a fact that we do not have a national ranking of Ugandan chess players. The last known rating was carried out using the FIDE approved ELO system based on all tournament data from 1997 - 2000. The rating list had all Ugandan chess players (active and inactive) with a fixed point of entry for new entrants and was widely accepted within and outside the country.
Unfortunately, the ranking ended after the Uganda Chess Federation failed to keep a record of tournament data despite the fact that the ranking service was free of charge.
The new UCF’s immediate plans should revive ranking using the international ELO system to get rid of egoistic individual opinions that are causing unnecessary rifts that may kill the wonderful game of chess in the country.
