The gravity water flow system (GFS) distribution pipes in Katoke village, Kasese district have been vandalised.
This was revealed on Thursday at a two-day workshop on Rights Based Approach conducted by Kasese District Development Network (KADDE-NET).
“Clean and safe water is not our immediate problem,” a participant quoted a resident as saying.
“We do not know where they are taking the pipes,” he added.
A similar incident has been reported in Bunyandiku village.
The two GFS projects were jointly funded by UNICEF and Kasese district local government.
A district water officer recently said unkown people had vandalised some GFS distribution pipes.
KADDE-NET chairman Mathina Bwambale said there was need to sensitise residents on their rights.
“It appears people do not know their rights. Such a thing is the same as demonstrating against your own rights,” he said.
According to records at the district headquarters, the two villages are some of the areas frequently hit by cholera.
The workshop was funded by the European Union Human Rights and Good Governance.
