St. Aloysius College Nyapea in Nebbi district has been temporarily closed for fear of an impending student strike, reports Frank Mugabi.
The acting deputy headteacher, Patrick Angala, yesterday said the decision was arrived at after they received another anonymous notice threatening to burn down the school if the suspended students were not recalled back by Friday evening.
“F**k you men-headmaster. We are tired of suspension. You should stop it from today onwards. We want those boys suspended to come back before Friday. If not, you will see what will happen if you think that we are deceiving. A long vacation is not our problem. F**k your administration for suspending people,†read the notice similar to last Wednesday’s.
Thirty-four students were suspended indefinitely on Wednesday following the burning of 37 students in a hounding exercise on new school entrants on Friday night.
The torture involved burning the victims’ cheeks, shoulders and backs with candle flames and hot lamps.
Some victims had their bodies stamped with hot metal while others had their backs scratched with mathematical compasses.
Sixteen students were rushed to Nyapea Hospital for treatment.
Angala said the end-of term-examinations had been cancelled.
No arrests have been made but the Police are investigating.
The headmaster is currently out of the school in Kampala were he had gone to report the events to the ministry of education.
The students reportedly stoned seven armed policemen deployed at the school on Thursday night.
