The Government has hailed the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) for supporting it in numerous projects aimed at fighting food insecurity.
The Ministry of Agriculture permanent secretary, David Obong, said FAO provided agricultural inputs when Kasese experienced floods in 2002.
In a message read by FAO desk officer Ruth Okwele in Kasese recently, Obong said the Government would support programmes aimed at increasing agricultural production in the district.
This was during a visit of FAO country representative Ajmal Qureshi linked to the forthcoming World Food Day celebrations which Kasese will host on October 16.
Qureshi visited Kasese to explore ways of boosting food production.
Okwele said they aimed at improving food security, nutrition and rural development.
She said the Plan for Modernisation of Agriculture would soon be extended to Kasese plus the Rural Electrification Programme aimed at taking energy to rural areas to reduce tree cutting and environmental degradation.
