Sugar Corporation of Company of Uganda Limited (SCOUL) last week resumed production with 150 tonnes of increased daily output, reports Nicholas Kajoba.

SCOUL is owned by the Methta Group. The company had closed for a month for an overhaul and routine maintenance works which cost sh7b.

S. C Khanna, the SCOUL chief executive said on Friday, the overhaul was to enable the company replace some of it is old machines to increase out the production output.

“Before the overhaul, the company was producing 130 tonnes of sugar daily but now, we have increased the production to 150 tonnes,” he said.

Last year, the company produced 37,000 tonnes of sugar, but officials said 45,000 tonnes would be produced at least before the end of this year.
