PARLIAMENTARY committees yesterday failed to conduct meetings due to lack of quorum as most MPs were believed to have travelled to Mbarara for the Parliamentary Advocacy Forum (PAFO) meeting.
Out of the nearly 10 committees lined up for business only the budget committee chaired by James Mwandha sat with about nine chairpersons of the various committees. The budget committee is composed of chairpersons of all sessional committees.

More passion

GOMBA county Mp Emmanuel Kalule Ssengo has initiated a passion fruit growing project in the area.
Through the sustainable agriculture for rural development, Ssengo told residents of Maddu that he would distribute free passion fruit and vanilla vines to farmers.

KIBOGA residents yesterday demonstrated against failure of the Electoral Commission to conduct elections for a mayor and three sub-county councillors.
Residents said during a demonstration led by councillor Sula Ssekiwunga, that lack of representatives had sabotaged their projects.

RDC assures

MUKONO resident district commissioner Deo Nsereko has assured the district and lower council leaders that alternative funding would be availed to sustain them when the graduated tax is suspended.
He was yesterday closing a workshop on local revenue collection for sub-county chairmen and accountants in the district.

Invest more

The Masaka district LC5 chairman, Vincent Ssempijja, has urged residents to invest more funds in the micro-finance scheme so as to strengthen the capital base of the institutions.
Ssempijja was representing the Speaker of Parliament, Edward Ssekandi, at the annual general meeting for Buddukiro Rural Micro-finance cooperative trust on Tuesday.
