MASAKA — The Presidential Guard Brigade is holding three private security guards who were found with live ammunition during a parade match before President Yoweri Museveni on Labour day. Geoffrey Safari, Paul Aleu and John Katongole were taken to an undisclosed place. The guards were attached to Nile Guards company.

One held over suicide
JINJA — The local administration Police in Bugembe, have arrested a 38-year-old man over attempting to commit suicide by drowning in Lake Victoria. Jackson Tasaga reportedly walked into a deep shore at Wanyange. The Police officer in charge of crime, James Waiswa, said Tasaga was rescued by fishermen.

Vanilla thief lynched
MUKONO — A suspected vanilla thief was on Sunday killed and his body burnt to ashes by angry residents of Banda-Nantuula village, Ntenjeru-Kojja sub-county. Joseph Kato ran out of luck after he was found picking the vanilla from Moses Mukiibi’s garden in the night.

Court fines Mbale govt
MBALE – The High Court has ordered the district to compensate an official who was wrongly interdicted on the recommendation of the Inspector General of Government (IGG). Kosea Tumusiime, a senior accounts assistant, was given sh7m as damages and cost for the interdiction. The IGG’s report implicated him in the misappropriation of funds meant for the 2000 referendum exercise.

Three dead in bus crash
NTUNGAMO — A Kabale-bound Horizon bus on Wednesday left three people dead on the Ntungamo-Kabale road at Nyaburiza. The dead were identified as Esther Kobusingye, James Byakatonda and Henry Turinawe who were travelling on a motorcycle. The DPC, Otika Akubu, attributed the accident to poor driving and failure to observe traffic laws.
