THE South African government has criticised the LRA leader, Joseph Kony, and his rebels for the atrocities committed in northern Uganda.

South African high commissioner Vilakazi Bavumile urged Kony to end killing innocent citizens.
Bavumile said this on Tuesday during the commemoration of South Africa’s National Day in Kampala.

He said northern Uganda, like other parts of the country, deserved peace and security.

“The people of South Africa, in solidarity with the people of Uganda, call upon the LRA to enter into negotiations with the Government of Uganda to end the violence that has affected millions of people in the north,” Bavumile said.

He said the celebrations were aimed at uniting the people of South Africa in marking the achievements of the country in the last 10 years.

He said the relationship between South Africa and Uganda had a deep historical background characterised by bilateral trade.
