Varsity holds graduation
MBALE — The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) is holding its 11th graduation ceremony today. The university public relations officer, Hussein Kaaya, yesterday said over 440 students, 142 of whom are female, will be awarded degrees and diplomas. He said the former Saudi Arabia speaker of Parliament, Dr. Abdallah Nassif, would presided over the function. Kaaya advised female graduands to observe the dress code.

LC5 boss warns
MPIGI — The LC5 chairperson, Alhaji Badru Kabega, has threatened to sack community development officers who pursue further studies at the expense of their work. “These people have abandoned their work in their sub-counties,” he said. Kabega was addressing 65 students from Nsamizi Leadership Institute at Kabulassoke sub-county headquarters recently. Kabega said such officers risked forfeiting their jobs.

Reptile kills fisherman
MAYUGE — A fisherman died and three others survived when a crocodile attacked a stationary canoe near Bwonda landing site on Lake Victoria recently. “The reptile clutched the deceased’s right hand and pulled him out of the canoe into the lake,” the district Police commander, Stephen Olwenyi, said on Thursday. He said the Police were searching for the body.
