THE UPDF forces of the 41st and 7th battalions killed 13 rebels of the lord’s Resistance army in two clashes in Gulu on Sunday evening.

The Army spokesman for northern and northeastern region, Lt Paddy Ankunda, said the UPDF operational forces killed nine rebels in the areas of Labani and Pukony between Awach and Paicho sub-counties in Aswa county.

The other three rebels were killed when they entered into a UPDF ambush at Opit in Lakwana sub-county in Omoro county.

He said the Army captured five sub-machine guns with 120 loose rounds of ammunition.

Ankunda said two other rebel fighters surrendered to their operational forces in the district with three guns and two captives.
He said other areas in Gulu district were generally calm without serious battles.

“We repulsed a group of rebels who had intended to put an ambush on the civilians trucks and killed four of them,” he said.
