Parliament has approved a sh14.9b supplementary budget to facilitate auxiliary forces in the war-torn north and east

Parliament has approved a sh14.9b supplementary budget to facilitate auxiliary forces in the war-torn north and east, reports Mary Karugaba.

Presenting the supplementary budget on Thursday, state minister for finance Mwesigwa Rukutana said the ministry could not provide the required sh22.4b because of financial constrains and pressure from other ministries.
The budget request for auxiliary forces is sh22.417b to cater for salary and allowances, food and top up for the Arrow Group and for food for the Anti-Stock Theft Unit.

This is in addition to the sh2.3b approved for uniforms.
MPs also approved sh1.84b for humanitarian relief to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the north and sh50m to facilitate the northern Uganda ministry in Gulu.
Also approved was the sh2.56b to fund the improvement of security roads in the north and sh1.452b to pay outstanding compensation on the Kampala by-pass.
