JAMII Ya Kupatanisha (JYAK), a Christian NGO advocating reconciliation, has launched a conflict-resolution scheme in three secondary schools in Gulu district.

The JYAK post-conflict healing officer, Beatrice Oyere, recently said they had selected Gulu High School, Awere Secondary School and Koro Vocational School for the pilot scheme in Gulu.

Oyere said the aim of the scheme was to develop peer mediators as a way of resolving minor conflicts among students and reducing violence in schools.

She said the idea for the scheme had been developed after the success of similar projects carried out in America.

“We sensitised the teachers on the project to minimise conflict with the students,” Oyere said.

She said the project would soon be extended to other schools.
