3 advance in qualifiers

THE first phase of the chess Olympiad qualifiers ended on Sunday with three men including Julius Anuari advancing to the final phase.

THE first phase of the chess Olympiad qualifiers ended on Sunday with three men including Julius Anuari advancing to the final phase.

Former junior champion Farouk Fauza and last year’s New Vision champion Hassan Mulambe joined Anuari.

Three more players will qualify for the final phase due next month from the group of Kenneth Kaheru, Stephen Opio, Shadrack Kantinti and Tony Magezi who tied at 5.5.

The four will face each other this weekend. The final phase will also have six top rated players who were exempted from the first phase.

They are national champion Steven Kawuma, Bob Bibasa, Moses Kawuma, Ignatius Wanderema, Isaac Munanira and Geoffrey Kanduho.
