Uganda Peoples’ Congress (UPC) presidential policy commission chairman Dr. James Rwanyarare has warned the Mengo government against supporting a third term for President Yoweri Museveni.
Addressing a press briefing on Wednesday, Rwanyarare accused the Buganda government of plotting to support Museveni’s bid for a third term in exchange for federo.
He said Buganda’s recent celebrations, organised by Katikiiro Joseph Mulwanyamuli Ssemwogerere to commemorate the 1966 attack on the palace by former president Milton Obote’s troops, were meant to win support for Museveni.
Rwanyarare justified the attack, saying it was necessary for uniting the country.
He said the Katikiiro’s representative at Kasubi tombs, Arthur Bagunywa, meant Museveni when he said “Mengo will support the federal candidate.”
Rwanyarare said presenters of CBS Radio weekly programme “Jetuvudde” distorted facts in order to incite the Baganda against UPC and those who held leadership positions under the UPC government
