SEVEN pro-third term MPs on Tuesday took their campaigns to Kayunga district, urging the masses to support the lifting of the presidential term limit. Rose Namayanja (Youth Central), Rose Seninde (Wakiso Woman), Nyombi Tembo (Kasanda South), Sarah Nansubuga (Ntenjeru North), Sulaiman Madaada (Baale County), Kefa Sempangi (Ntenjeru South) and Nathan Byanyima (Bukanga), addressed a rally at Kayunga Playground.
Presidential assistant on political affairs Moses Byaruhanga talked on the democratisation process in the country. Oliver Wonekha (Mbale Woman) attended but did not address the rally. Some people at the rally wore esanja (dry banana leaves), which signify the third term.
There was a lot of ululation and dancing as the MPs joined the crowd in praising President Yoweri Museveni and calling on him to stand for another term. “Parliament has no power over the amendment of Article 105. Peasants want their power and they will use it to decide on the system of governance in the referendum,†Seninde said.
She attacked multipartyists for allegedly interfering in the political affairs of the NRM-O party, saying they should sort out the problems in their parties instead before intervening in the affairs of other parties.
MP Tembo said the rallies staged by parties that had refused to registered were illegal. “Some political parties like DP and UPC have refused to register, saying conditions are not favorable to them yet they go on conducting rallies. The Police should halt their rallies,†he said.
