By Yunusu Abbey THE Government has contracted Energo Projekt to repair sections of the Busega-Mityana Road, currently in a bad shape.
“Energo Projekt is supposed to cover 10km from Bujuuko on the 57km-Busega-Mityana Highway. Work is expected to last not more than six months,†a works ministry source said recently.
The Yogoslav-owned company has already started the work, which involves resealing sections of the road and filling potholes.
“The Government is financing the emergency repairs as it awaits World Bank money earmarked for rehabilitating the highway.â€
“The ministry plans to engage two other contractors to carry out more emergency repairs on the remaining sections of the road. This will be done as soon as funds are available,†added the source.
The Danish government had reportedly agreed to fund the road project at $30m. However, they withdrew when another party won elections and took over power in Copenhagen.
The new leaders reportedly said road projects were not their priority and preferred injecting the $30m in other programmes.
Works minister John Nasasira recently said the road was among those to be rehabilitated under a $107.6m World Bank grant. Ends
