ANXIOUS local cricket fanatics will have to wait two days longer to meet South African lead bowler Makhaya Ntini.
Originally to have set foot in Uganda today, the 26-year-old superstar can only arrive in Kampala on Friday, UCA announced last night.

Ntini is coming to help raise the profile of Ugandan cricket and pass on knowledge to youngsters and to the national team that is a win away from representing Africa in the Inter-Continental championships.

No reason for the change of schedule, but ICC Regional Development Manager Hoosain Ayoub passed on word about the change to Latimer Mukasa, the Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) boss yesterday.

“Ayoub has just called me informing me of the travel changes but did not give the reasons,” Mukasa said.

Ntini brings to Uganda the experience of a black South African, who from a humble background, has made strides in his career playing for the national team at the highest level of cricket.

One of the highlights of his career came last year, when he became the first South African to take ten wickets in a test match when his side beat England by an innings and 92 runs at Lords.

While in Uganda, Ntini will tour primary and secondary schools and will also attend the South Africa Day cricket match at Kyambogo oval on Sunday.

Castle Lager, South African Airways, Sheraton Hotel and members of the South African business community have made his visit possible.

-Perfect Bounce, a South Africa grass wicket company, has started final touches on the newly established grass wicket at Lugogo oval.

Thys Casterns and Hennie De Beer from South Africa arrived in the country on Sunday courtesy of Castle Lager, sponsors of the national league.

“I am impressed with the developments here. The wicket looks good and to be sincere I did not expect to find it like this,” Casterns remarked.

The new grass wicket, the first of its kind in Uganda, is being prepared to host the inaugural three-day international encounter between Uganda and Kenya scheduled for July 23.

ICC official Ayoub will inspect the wicket this weekend.
