KAMPALA Central Division has introduced a sh50,000 as sticker fees for upcountry-bound buses.
According to the recently passed division budget of 2004/05, the fee that takes effect next month also applies to buses that ply regional routes to Nairobi, Dar-es-Salaam, Kigali and Mombasa.
The division secretary for finance, Pradi Karia, yesterday said they expected to raise sh1m per month from the fees.
Initially, buses plying the Kampala and upcountry routes have not been paying any fees. The operators of buses however pay fees to the managers of bus parks and terminals.
Baganda Bus Park and Arua Park handle upcountry buses. Regional Bus Services, Scandinavia Express, Gateway, Akamba, Falcon, Busscar are some of the companies that offer transport services to neighbouring countries.
About 80 buses access the Baganda Bus Park in a day, according to Asuman Jjunju, the Uganda Bus Operators Association (UBOA) chairperson.
Kampala City Council last year leased the park and the Katimba area to UBOA to construct a bus terminal.
