ABSCESS TIPS

When an injection site becomes painful or swollen, never take it lightly

When an injection site becomes painful or swollen, never take it lightly. You should gently press it with an ice pack. If you cannot get ice, soak a piece of cloth in the coldest water you can get and press it on the injection site.

You will need to repeat this cold compress at least three times a day.

Each time, leave the cold pack there for 15 - 20 minutes.

Avoid hot water. Dr. Edward Nadumba, orthopaedic surgeon at Mulago Hospital says it is not recommended because it might burn the tissues.

if the pain is severe and the limb on the affected side becomes weak, these are signs that you should seek medical assistance urgently.

If you ignore the pain, the injury might become complicated and lead to paralysis or lameness.

Cold compression will cool injured tissue, reduce pain and slow down the damaging process referred to as inflammation, which occurs when a tissue is injured. It also reduces swelling.
