How do you feel about preparing for exams? Both science and arts students find difficulty to begin revising while doing new stuff. Therefore the steps below will guide you:

All exams require you to organise your knowledge for revision: allow time to sort through your notes, check areas you are less sure of in the library and with friends, to get an overview of the subject by reading the appropriate sections of reference books.

Recall what you have learnt, and memorise the information sufficiently well to be able to recall it under exam conditions.

Restructure your knowledge in response to a particular question.

You should know what your examiners require from you. Shape the information into the form asked for by the exam. For details consult your subject teachers to inform you what your exam will look like.

The face-to-face help got from the teacher will help you to discover the strong and weak areas.

Plan your revision by making a time table early on perhaps six to eight weeks ahead including other unavoidable academic work or family commitments, and time for relaxation, exercise or social events, exam dates and times set aside for revision and library visits.

Whenever you prioritise activities, the academic related ones should score highly. All exams are important. Prepare for mocks as well. It is one way to gauge your potential as early as possible.

Approach your revision by going to the library and photocopy the last 2-3 years’ exam papers. Decide how many topic areas you will need to revise. National exams are different therefor get acquainted with the feeling early.
