A MULTI-MILLION hotel, GAF Apartments, has opened on Arua Road in Nebbi town.

Built on an eight-plot piece of land, the hotel is the second phase of a 10-year project by a local businessman, K.G Adubango.

In an interview last week, Adubango said the three-phase project was estimated to cost sh2b when completed in 2010.

“When the three-storeyed building is completed, the hotel will have 60 rooms, a conference hall, offices, a bar and restaurant. I want visitors especially NGOs within the district to feel at home while in Nebbi,” Adubango said.

The hotel also has three spacious gardens, parking for over 20 vehicles, a pool table and a strong metal fence for security.

It is powered by a generator and each room is fitted with a Dstv, freezer, fan, reading table and toilets with running water.

Adubango said the construction of a swimming pool, which was in the third phase of the project was in progress.

He said he was inspired to invest in a hotel because the district lacked proper accommodation for the various visitors to the area.

“I was challenged by business friends and government officials from Kampala who used to complain about poor accommodation in the district,” Adubango said, adding, “Five years ago, NGOs in Nebbi had their offices and accommodation in Arua, 76 kilometres away. This prompted me to start this project,” he said.

Room charges range between sh35,000 and sh45,000 for single and double-beds respectively.

Adubango said several visitors, especially whites working in the West Nile region were already enjoying the hotel’s facilities.

Nathan Ahimbisibwe, Nebbi assistant chief administrative officer who toured the hotel recently said, “this is real civilisation brought to Nebbi.”

A grand ceremony to launch the complex has been set for June 19. It will be presided over by a minister yet to be named by the hotel officials.
