THE Government has released sh250m to pay 214 Luweero war debt claimants.

Announcing the release at his office in Nakasero yesterday, state minister for Luweero Triangle Semakula Kiwanuka said those to be paid first are those demanding less than sh3m.

He said the war debts verification committee chaired by Jacob Asiimwe had decided on the names after eliminating false claims.

He lashed out at Lubaga South MP Ken Lukyamuzi and other politicians who incited false claimants, saying they should consult the committee first.

“Inspite of financial constraints, the Government has already paid over 200 people. Lukyamuzi shouldn’t be keen to censure me. I am not scared by him, although I compliment him for his concern over these people,” he said.

He said two exceptional cases claiming over sh3m will be paid by cheque, Dr. Ssebuliba and Lt. Col. Musajja Awaza.

Kiwanuka said the claimants would be paid from their localities, and the exercise would be witnessed by the area LC3 chairpersons.

He sneered at false claimants who use false forms and rubber stamps, urging them to go back to their villages for farming.
