THE trio of Lindah Damba, Rose Nakalya and Monica Nakityo, fresh from conquering the Kenyans in their own backyard, will be the stars to beat at the Picfare schools badminton tournament at Lugogo stadium.
Damba, a women singles’ winner and Nakalya and Nakityo, who combined to take the women doubles title at the Starehe Open last week, will use their foreign experience to dominate the three-day tournament that starts today.
The annual event has had a sh5m boost from Picfare Group of Companies.
The three are students of Our Lady of Good Counsel, Gayaza, who have dominated badminton in the senior category in the past two years. They will defend the U-18 crown.
They however have to watch out for the talent of Mount St Mary’s Namagunga, Mariam High and St Lawrence, who have promised to give them a run for their money.
“They (the three) proved that they are good but you never know how good other stars are like,” said event coordinator Simon Mugabi.
The championship will see action in the boys, girls and doubles of the U-12, U-14, U-16 and U-18 age categories.
