Please, tell Kitamirike the truth!

SIR— Somebody is not telling the truth about the Kitamirike issue

SIR— Somebody is not telling the truth about the Kitamirike issue. There is absolutely no way Kitamirike can get a Ugandan passport without denouncing UK citizenship.

There is only one passport form to fill and it includes a section on denouncing every other citizenship. If it is not filled, no passport can be issued.

People should tell the boy the truth.
About the dual citizenship, when that debate starts, Kitamirike’s case will just be one of the minor issues. There are many, many people who are disadvantaged because of that issue, including the kyeyo (migrant labour) people who now contribute more forex than coffee.

The problem is that Uganda is also extremely vulnerable (from crooks and drug dealers) on the dual citizenship issue. For example, do we apply it only to people of Ugandan origin like Kitamirike? Or do we also give other nationals Ugandan citizenship while they keep their original passports, which has always caused fear?
