UGANDA Revenue Authority (URA) has admitted to have wrongly impounded pangas in the belief that they were imported by Dr. Kiiza Besigye to cause mayhem in the 2001 presidential campaigns, reports Stephen Muwambi.
“We accept our part of the blame. We cannot talk for the Attorney General,†URA lawyer Hudson Musoke told commercial court judge Stella Amoko. The Government was not represented. Amoko also gave URA up to two weeks to round up settlement into the case filed by Down Town Hardware.
She said negotiations into the settlement had unreasonably dragged. Down Town Hardware sued the Government and URA seeking damages of sh107m over the loss of the pangas.
