THE Vice-President, Prof. Gilbert Bukenya, has urged scientists to develop appropriate technologies of national and international importance to win the sh400m presidential scientific innovation award.
Bukenya said the Government would continue prioritising science and technology because scientific research is a pre-requisite for the country’s development.
He said this in a speech read by the state minister in the Vice-President’s Office, Adolf Mwesigwe, while opening a banana seminar at the Makerere University Faculty of Forestry and Nature Conservation.
It was organised by the Uganda National Academy of Sciences.
Bukenya hailed the National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO) for its efforts in research.
“Our capacity for scientific research is desirably growing and results are quite imperative because with NARO, researchers have been able to come up with high yielding and free resistant crops,” he said.
