THE Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels recently killed a UPDF soldier and three civilians in a road ambush in Lira district, reports James Oloch.
The ambush occurred on Sunday around 5:00pm between Ikwe village and Baralegi, bordering Olilim and Okwang sub-counties in Otuke, Lira district.
The Army 5th division spokesperson, Lt Gabriel Lamongin, on Monday said the LRA rebels ambushed an Otuke-bound pick-up truck carrying merchandise.
He said seven other occupants were seriously injured and admitted in Lira Hospital.
Lamongin said the rebels did not loot the goods or burn the vehicle, whose registration number had not been established, because a UPDF patrol troop nearby responded in time.
He said it was the first reported rebel incident in Lira in the last three months.
, adding that the Army was hunting down the rebels in the sub-region.
