Obadiah Akaki has refuted allegations by his brother, former president Milton Obote, that President Yoweri Museveni killed their father.
Akaki, 75, recently told The New Vision at his home in Akokoro, Apac district, that their father, Stanley Opeto, was strangled in 1987 by Karimojong cattle rustlers and buried in a 3-feet deep grave.
“It’s not true that Museveni killed our father. He should stop tarnishing the image of the president,” Akaki said.
He said the raiders beat up the old man seriuosly before strangling him. “He was alone in the house. Our mother had hidden in the suds on Lake Kwania,” he said.
Akokoro LC3 chairman Robert Olinga-Otolo, however, said the Opeto’s killers wore army uniform.
He said the government should have provided security for the Obote’s family. “I think that is why Obote blames Museveni over his father’s death,” he said.
Opeto’s grandson, Johnson Onapa said he witnessed the murder said from a tree.Ends
