BARCLAYS Bank has filed a sh11m bill of costs against the embattled Alhaji Nasser Ntege Sebaggala’s defunct Kisaasi Forex Bureau.
This is after the bank successfully prosecuted the bureau for issuing several bicupuli (fake) cheques.
Barclays accused the bureau of fleecing it of sh47m between 1993 and 1994.
Sebaggala lost the case and Justice Ssempa Lugayizi ordered him to pay sh186,675,635m, including a 29% interest, calculated from October 29, 1993, until the full payment is done.
Mugerwa, Masembe and Company Advocates filed a sh11,895,856 bill of costs, as the money the bank used to pursue the prosecution of the bureau.
The bill includes costs incurred by the bank on a preliminary application, after Sebaggala sought release of $30,000, which the bank held, on learning that he (Sebaggala) had always been paid on false cheques.
The lawyers addressed the bill to the High Court’s Deputy Registrar, Godfrey Namundi, who had, by yesterday, not fixed it for hearing.
Advocate Elbert Byenkya of Byenkya, Kihika and Company Advocates, represented the bureau.
