THE Police yesterday received 15 computers from Stanbic Bank, a donation that will bolster the force’s efforts to keep with changing patterns of crime and combat cyber crime.
Stanbic managing director Kitili Mbathi handed over the computers to the Police director of administration, Eric Turyatunga.
The newly-upgraded computers are to be installed in the Police Training School Kibuli, computer laboratory, which prior to the donation had five computers.
“This donation is to improve the computer skills of Police officers,” Mbathi said while handing over the computers at the Police headquarters on Tuesday.
Turyatunga lauded the bank for its generosity and revamping the banking industry, saying Police officers would gradually receive their salary through banks.
“Due to poor banking systems, it was not possible to pay our officers salaries through the banks but due to the improvements, 860 officers currently receive their pay through Stanbic and 3,000 other officers have opened accounts,” Turyatunga said.
Police officers rely on manual pay sheets, where at the end of the month, lengthy queues of Police officers eager to receive their salary in cash, are seen at various Police stations.
