JOY A. Drati, a son of the Anglican Bishop of West Nile, is being held in California, USA, for housing violations resulting from his failure to fix his 59 run-down properties.

In spite of the efforts of his father, Bishop Enock Lee Drati, to help resolve his troubles, Joy Drati has since September 24, 2004 been in custody because he is considered a flight risk by the court, according to the online Buffalo News.

Buffalo News said Joy Drati’s legal problems deepened last Tuesday as Buffalo officials cited 18 more properties for violations. He is locked up at the Erie County Correctional Facility in Alden. The 37-year-old Drati has 59 properties in Buffalo.

“City Housing Judge Henry J. Nowak also refused to lower the bail for Joy A. Drati of J.D. Max Homes of San Pablo, Calif., despite a plea from Drati’s father, Bishop Enock Lee Drati of Uganda’s Anglican Church. The bishop said he would remain in Buffalo for a month to resolve his son’s troubles,” Buffalo News said.

It reported that Drati has been locked up since September 24, unable to meet the $124,750 bail set for numerous housing charges on five of Drati’s 59 properties. Drati pleaded not guilty to the new housing violations.
