THE president of the Uganda Clearing Industry and Forwarding Agents Association, Kassim Omar (right), has called for co-operation with their counterparts in the region.
“There is need to forge a regional partnership with a view of extending beyond our national boarders in line with the modern development trends which are geared towards regional integration through private sector participation,†Omar said during a seminar in Kigali, Rwanda last week.
It was organised by the Clearing and Forwarding Association of Rwanda with the aim of promoting professionalism in the industry.
“With this seminar, there will be an improvement in co-operation between the two associations through exchange of views about the industry,†he said.
Omar said considering the role of the freight forwarders and the private sector in the economic development of the region, it was inevitable for legislators, policy makers and support organisations to acknowledge the existence of stakeholder -apex bodies and moderate their inputs by establishing and strengthening partnerships through regular client consultative councils.
