PREDIDENTS Yoweri Museveni and Paul Kagame of Rwanda were yesterday (Sunday) scheduled to open a sh428m complex named after the first Ntare school headteacher, William Chrichton.

Kyomuhendo Muhanga writes that the Chrichton Memorial Communication Centre, which houses a library with a seating capacity of 300 and a computer laboratory complete with Internet connection was erected by the Old Boys (OBs) of the school. The two presidents studied at the school.

The OBs from Rwanda contributed US $30,000 (about sh60m) while the rest came from OBs in Uganda and elsewhere in the world, officials said.

The ultra-modern building was constructed by Excel Construction Limited. Fanfare marked the groundbreaking ceremony in February 2002.

Ntare is one of the oldest schools in the country and many leading personalities in Uganda have passed through it. Some of the leading OBs include Justices Alfred Karokora, Gideon Tinyinondi and Herbert Ntabgoba, the former principal judge.

Ministers Amama Mbabazi, Omwony Ojwok, Fabius Byaruhanga, John Nasasira, Richad Nduhura, Nsaba Buturo, Prof. Tarsis Kabwegyere, Eriya Kategaya, Prof. Opio Epelu, Prof. A.B. Nganwa, Jotham Tumwesigye (IGG) and Stephen Akabway are some of the high ranking personalities who studied at Ntare.
