THE Permanent Secretary, ministry of Local Government, V. Ssekkono, has warned local council speakers to desist from engaging in the administrative work

THE Permanent Secretary, ministry of Local Government, V. Ssekkono, has warned local council speakers to desist from engaging in the administrative work of chairpersons, chief administrative officers (CAOs) and town clerks, writes Abubaker Mukose.

“We have been getting copies of letters from speakers at all levels directing CAOs and town clerks to take action on administrative and operational matters in local governments,” Ssekkono said.

“Some write to Permanent Secretaries on issues affecting local government staff,” Ssekkono said in a letter to all district chairpersons and mayors.

He said speakers had no adminstrative and supervisory powers over the staff of local governments.
