THE DENIVA executive director, Prof. John Kwesiga, has called for consensus on how Uganda’s transition should be managed.
Kwesiga urged local NGOs to take keen interest in the transition, if they are to promote and defend the interests of the people.
“The interests of the people and the communities cannot be realised unless the people are heard,” he said.
He was on Monday delivering a paper on the role of good governance in decentralisation at a two-day conference on how to develop coordinated approaches with the Government in implementing poverty-eradication programmes.
Sub-county chiefs, LC chairpersons, district councillors and representatives of various NGOs attended the conference at Rwenzori International Hotel, Kamaiba, Kasese town.
The Kasese District Development Network, in conjunction with the European Union Human Rights and Good Governance Programme, organised the conference.
Kwesiga said NGOs should be trasnsparent.
