Heritage Oil Corporation, the company drilling for oil in western Uganda may be close to announcing a discovery in the Semliki Valley as the latest drilling is ahead of schedule, a statement from the company has said.
The Turaco 3 (third oil well) being drilled at Semliki Valley is ahead of schedule, with a depth of 2,200 metres reached so far against a planned depth of 2,850 metres.
Michael Gulbenkian, Heritage’s chairman and chief executive officer said, “We have not experienced any operational problems and can complete drilling and production testing before the end of the year.”
Production testing will allow the company determine whether commercial quantities of oil are found in the area.
The statement said the well was spudded on September 24.
The logs of the Turaco-2 Well (approximately 100 metres from Turaco-3), identified potential hydrocarbons over two intervals constituting gross pay of over 300 metres, but were not tested due to mechanical difficulties.
Heritage and its partner, Energy Africa, have intensified this year’s exploration and appraisal, which includes acquisition of a 3D Seismic Survey.
The seismic crew was mobilised in June.
