Matembe roars
MP Miria Matembe, former Minister for Ethics and Integrity is not disgruntled. And that is what she recently told Prof. Tarsis Kabwegere, the Minister for Local Government who had said that Matembe’s attack on the government was born out of frustration. “Me, Matembe to be disgruntled? Disgruntled for what?” she shot back adding, “the problem is that when some of us raise issues that we think are of national importance, you say that it is because we are no longer in cabinet.”

Corruption!
Corruption. Yes, corruption. Now, during a consultative workshop between MPs and some members of the civil society at Grand Imperial Hotel, it was agreed that the buying of votes is corruption. Then Kibale County MP Capt. Charles Byaruhanga and his Kalungu East colleague, Lule Mawiya accused Movement MPs of being corrupt because they bought votes to come to parliament. But trust some movement MPs to come with smart responses. One of the Movement MPs said, “We didn’t buy votes, we only facilitated voters”. With that kind of attitude, who needs to fight corruption which still needs a definite definition!

Language woes
Bbale County MP Sulaiman Madada rocked participants of conference on corruption with rib breaking laughter when he invited the Irish Ambassador, Mairtin O’fainin to
speak. Madada, who happens to be the chairperson of the almost-dead Young Parliamentary Association (YPA) that had organised the workshop, first cleared his throat and said, “I now call upon the Ireland Ambassador in his wise wisdom to address the participants”. Well, sometimes it is wise to muster the language.

Afande forgets!
No military man shall speak politically, we thought was the rule. But not so with Lt. Col Fred Mwesigye, MD for the army-owned National Enterprise Corporation (NEC). At the graduation party of his nephew, Daniel Mukombozi (LLB, MUK), Afande Mwesigye accused NRM critics of being enemies of development. “Some MPs board planes to go abroad to persuade World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) not to allow the construction of Bujagali and Karuma Falls dams. These people are enemies of development; they should be blamed for lack of jobs and not Museveni.
