CRANES coach Mohammed Abbas has been handed a casual six-month working contract with an automatic rollover.

The roller provision, in which one year is added to the length of the contract at the end of each year, takes effect May 1 next year.

According to Cranes working committee spokesman Aggrey Kibenge, soccer governing body FUFA had submitted Abbas’ six-month expenditure estimated at sh25m.
“We were told he will at the moment work within a six month period before eventually signing the official contract. The funds that will be released will be used to pay for his accommodation, acquire a car and allowances for the period,” said Kibenge.

Kibenge however disclosed that sh400,000 would be spent on housing at Namboole Sports Hotel after Abbas snubbed plans of a fully furnished home.
“He said he felt more at home at Namboole Hotel and would love to stay there. His family will also join him there later this year,” Kibenge added.

Norman Katende adds that it will take some time for Cranes to enter camp after the committee insisted that they have to first study the L-Sporto deal before they think of funding the senior side.

The Cranes were due in camp two weeks ago for the Four Nations Cup, organised by sports kit manufacturer L-Sporto. The Italy-based company entered a four year deal to dress the national team, which has created a rift at FUFA House.

According to committee spokesman Kibenge, unless they study the contract to determine its implications, they can not fund the team.
“We are yet to receive it. I hear it is now at the minister’s office. We will get a copy, call a meeting to discuss the way forward,” said Kibenge.

But word is rife in FUFA that they signed a raw deal after L-Sporto failed to deliver kit in time, something secretary Haruna Mawanda has denied.
