THE army has said they have killed and captured a total of 226 fighters of Joseph Kony’s Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) in the on-going Operation Iron Fist in the three districts of Gulu, Pader and Kitgum in October.

The army added that other LRA rebels defected to the government side with their weapons during the same period. About 115 abducted children were also rescued from the rebels.

The UPDF northern spokesman, Lt. Paddy Ankunda, said the army killed 128 fighters and captured 17 with their arms. He said 81 others surrendered with their weapons.

“We rescued 115 malnourished children. Most of them were saved from the rebels in Pader and Kitgum districts,” Ankunda said in his monthly report.

Ankunda said eight UPDF and eight civilians died during the battles against the LRA in the region.
