THE Commissioner of Prisons, Joseph Etima, has been recognised for his contribution towards the rehabilitation of prisoners.

Etima on Wednesday received the vocational award 2004/05 from the Rotary Club of Port bell at a ceremony held at St. Bruno Hall in Luzira.

The president of the club, Boniface Byamukama, said Etima had served selflessly towards the rehabilitation of prisoners, aimed at improving humanity.

Byamukama said Etima had shown commitment to the fight against the death penalty.

Etima said the award was an honour and pride to him, his family and the Prisons department.

“I am sure there were other names for consideration for this award. My final selection is a pride to me.

Rotary is one of the organisations I cherish, not because you selected me, but because it is an organisation which is united in common efforts for the common good of humanity,” he said.
