PRE-MATCH talk of this first leg Kakungulu Cup encounter was sharply divided on who, between Mike Mutebi and Jackson Mayanja, held heavier coaching credentials. Fans will be disappointed to learn that the post-match debate is bound to be just as inconclusive after both KCC and URA drew 1-all at Nakivubo yesterday. Mayanja though must feel the scales tilted in his favour as his troops exhibited their strength of character by restoring parity after Geoffrey Sserunkuma had clinically thrust KCC in the lead on 45 minutes. URA’s tactician will however be less impressed by the way a long punt forward left his rearguard back-pedalling to leave the KCC forward clean through on goal. KCC’s lead was hugely justified in this ill-tempered affair where Vincent Kayizzi was twice guilty of profligacy when presented with clear-cut opportunities. Such wastefulness was deservedly punished when ex-international Joseph Mutyaba reacted fastest to a goal-mouth scramble to hand URA the equaliser and the required away goal. Mutyaba’s diving header, off Haruna Mawa’s cutback, leaves the semi-final delicately-poised when KCC visits Namboole for the second leg on Wednesday. The case was no different at Wankulukuku where Express and Top TV renewed their bitter rivalry before settling for a goalless stalemate. Both sides enjoyed acrimonious exchanges during the past league season and few might have been surprised by the hostile reception accorded to Sam Ssimbwa’s outfit. Top TV however came through largely unscathed despite the second half dismissal of club chairman, Emmanuel Serunjoji from the bench. Ends
