THE Presidential Guard Brigade (PGB) yesterday clarified that none of its soldiers was arrested over alleged armed robbery in Hoima district, reports Steven Candia.
PGB spokesman Lt. Edison Kwesiga said on phone that whereas Private Edward Kakonge is a member of the PGB, Lt Arthur Asingwire was not, adding that the two were not involved in any robbery.
He was reacting to press reports at the weekend that the two were among four UPDF soldiers arrested by Brig. Kale Kaihura, over alleged involvement in armed robbery.
Kaihura, who is the President’s Military Assistant and the army Political Commissar, was quoted as saying he had arrested three lieutenants and a private, following reports that they had robbed and mistreated people in the district.
He said he was acting on the orders of the President. He said the others were Kaseeta detachment commanding officer Lt. Akimu Asiimwe and the sector intelligence officer for Hoima and Kibaale districts, Lt. Edgar Asiimwe.
