KABAROLE district chairperson Augustine Kayonga has threatened to abandon the National Resistance Movement-Organisation (NRM-O), saying his district was neglected.

Kayonga said while roads in other parts of the country were being constructed, the road to Fort Portal was in a bad state.

“We shall turn away. Why should we remain in politics with no stake? Eighteen years after the NRM came to power, the Kyegegwa-Kyenjojo road is in a bad state and nothing has been done about it. This should not be taken lightly,” he said.

Kayonga was addressing Kabarole district council at Mucwa chambers on Tuesday.

“Ibanda-Mbarara road has been constructed. What is it that Uganda gets from Ibanda and not Fort Portal? We are earning a lot of foreign exchange from tea. This is discrimination,” he said.

Area MPs Captain Steven Basaliza (Burahya county) and Henry Basaliza (Fort portal municipality) attended the council meeting.

Kayonga, who is also the Movement chairman, asked the MPs to tell President Yoweri Museveni that Kabarole district leaders were disgruntled and would turn away from the NRM-O.
He said district leaders had lobbied for the road in vain.
