BOMBO and Sir Apollo Kaggwa roads in Kampala are to get humps, following an appeal by Premier Prof. Apolo Nsibambi.
Kampala town clerk James Sseggane yesterday said the Kampala City Council (KCC) would start with Sir Apollo Kaggwa Road, which is under it.
Sseggane said the works ministry would help out on Bombo Road, since it is a government road.
He said Nsibambi, who is also the Makerere University Chancellor, made the appeal after a violent strike at the campus on November 16.
The students said their colleagues had been knocked down on Bombo and Sir Apollo Kaggwa roads due to the absence of humps to slow down motorists.
Sseggane said, “We also felt the need to install humps on roads surrounding the university since many hostels were coming up near the campus.”
He appealed to motorists to control speed because constructing humps on the roads was not enough to prevent accidents.
The local government ministry permanent secretary Vincent Ssekkono in a November 22 letter to Sseggane also requested KCC to build humps on roads surrounding the university.
Ssekkono also requested Sseggane to consider putting humps on Gaba Road near Kampala International University.
