Kaija’s letter on Fort Portal Road is outrageous

SIR— I am incensed by Mr James Kaija Atwooki’s letter, “I find Kabarole LC5 chairman lacking objectivity over Kampala-Fort Portal Road” which appeared in your paper yesterday.
Kaija lambasts the Kabarole LC5 chairman, Augustine Kayonga, for complaining about the Fort Portal Road. He then claims that the support of the Batooro for the NRM is deeper than the tarmac road blah, blah, blah.
There is only one conclusion: Either Kaija is not a Mutooro and is masquerading as one for personal reasons or is he an ‘absentee’ Mutooro — the kind who was born in Kampala and has never been to Kabarole or Toro or one who has never been there for the last 30 years?
It is painfully obvious Kaija has not been to Toro or Kabarole otherwise he would not be making such irresponsible statements. Ever since I was in my nappies, the Fort-Portal Road has been an issue and I am nearly 50 today.
Kayonga was right to refer particularly to the Ibanda Road. Its economic importance is nowhere near that of the Fort-Portal-Kampala highway. But once the attention of the powers that be focused on it, it was tarmacked at breakneck speed and finished in record time. Why shouldn’t Kayonga complain?
If Kaija never goes home, he should make an effort to do so now and stop representing Batooro on issues he has no idea about.
