CRANES are clearly in love with Abubaker Tabula.
The ‘bad boy’ of Ugandan football has been handed the captaincy of the national team just days after being controversially recalled. He had been sidelined by FUFA after his not-so-official move from KCC to Rwandan side APR.

Tabula was the captain when Cranes beat Rwanda to lift last year’s CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup in Sudan, and although he had never trained under Mohammed Abbas before, has been impressive in the the five days he has been in camp.

“He is good and he is the most senior on the team. Tabula has leadership abilities and we thought it was worth trying him again,” said team manager Asumani Lubowa.

The versatile midfielder will take over the skipper’s role from left-winger David Obua . Nestroy Kizito will be his assistant.

The team is expected to depart for Ethiopia at 9.00 am today.

“They have got their home upkeep and allowances. They are now focussed and I am sure they will put up a good performance,” added Lubowa.
